Mélenchon calls for ‘insurrection’

SAYING the “trial period is over”, Far Left leader Jean-Luc Mélenchon told President Hollande at a demonstration at the Place de la Bastille in Paris: “If you don’t know what to do; we do!”

Speaking to what police said was a crowd of 30,000 – but which the Parti du Gauche leader said was 180,000 people – Mélenchon accused Hollande of not keeping his promises from the presidential campaign and said: “We do not want the world of finance in power, we will not accept the politics of austerity.”

And he called for an “insurrection” to “put an end to such politics” which are “leading us to disaster”.

In an interview with Le Parisien he demanded that Hollande to "return to the Left, where he was when he was elected".

He has also called for a reshuffle of the government and said that he or Left-wing Industrial Renewal Minister Arnaud Montebourg should be prime minister.

Interior Minister Manuel Valls said on radio RTL that Mélenchon was trying to sow chaos in the country rather than get involved in France’s economic recovery.
