Pitt-Jolie wine sells for €10,000

BRAD Pitt and Angelina Jolie have sold a barrel of organic white wine from their Chateau Miraval domaine in the Var and raised €10,100 to help fund a “green village” in the Democratic Republic of the Congo [formerly Zaire].

The 228-litre barrique of 2013 wine had been signed by the couple and was bought for the top price in a sale of organic wines organised in their local commune of Correns.

In all, local vineyards offered 27 lots of bottles or barrels of wine in the auction, which was for a Congolese environmental group in Kivu.

The Pitt-Jolie barrel was by far the top seller, with the sale revealed to have made “€300 more than last year’s” which raised €24,000 for the group.

Other wines from the star couple’s vineyard sold for less spectacular sums, with a magnum of white going under the hammer for €170 and two bottles of Lady Jane white selling for €180.

So far the money raised in Correns auctions has allowed Congolese agronomist Achille Biffumbu to work since 2010 on a 18-hectare site on the Buzi-Bulenga peninsula, which is home to 30,000 people. He trains young students in sustainable farming techniques.

Angelina and Brad bought Miraval in 2008 for €40million and last year sold their first Miraval Côtes de Provence organic rosé – with the first 6,000 bottles selling out in five hours on the web.
