Covid-19 France: calculate a 100km trip
People can now travel up to 100km from their home without an attestation form – but how can you check exactly what that means?
The new rule comes in from today, though the new forms for longer trips were not ready yet this morning. People maintain the right to travel further than 100km without an attestation if they do not leave their home department or to travel to another department without an attestation if the destination is not more than 100km away.
However, in any of these situations, a form of ID showing your address can be required if you are stopped and checked.
To go further than 100km in total from your home on a trip to another department, an attestation and a compelling reason (work or an urgent family reason) is required.
The limit of 100 kilometres is defined as the crow flies from the place where you live.
Minister of Health Olivier Véran said: “Setting a threshold is always a bit arbitrary.
"100 kilometres is in general the maximum distance that the French travel every day to go to work, send their children to school or do their shopping. It covers their daily life zone.
"The French are asked not to go outside their usual living area.”
There are several different websites to help people to calculate 100km as the crow flies from their home.
Carte sortie confinement: this website is simple to use. You just type your address and it shows you how far you can go. It also works well on a mobile phone. https://carte-sortie-confinement.fr/
Another similar one is: https://www.cascoronavirus.fr/carte-circulation-100-km-deconfinement
Géoconcept: A geographic company Géoconcept has also created its own calculator. Again, you just have to type your address and it will show the area you are allowed to travel in. It can be used on a phone too.
