How to work out if your French health pass will expire on Saturday

France’s Covid health pass - which gives people access to the majority of public places - is set to expire this Saturday (January 15) for up to potentially 800,000 people, figures from the Health Ministry show.

This is because from this date, adults aged 18 to 64 who had their second vaccine dose more than seven months before must have also received their booster to ensure their health pass remains valid.

This has been the rule for 65s and over since December 15.

If you have not yet had a booster dose and want to know when exactly your health pass will expire, there are two possibilities.

Do the maths

One option is to simply count seven months after your second Covid vaccine dose.

If you received your second dose before June 15, then on Saturday (January 15) your pass will no longer be active without a booster dose or a negative Covid test.

If you received it after June 15, then you have until exactly seven months after the date of your second dose to receive a booster dose.

If you had one dose of a vaccine and then got Covid, you have until six months after the date of your positive Covid test to get a booster dose.

Use TousAntiCovid

Another option is to scan your vaccination certificate into the French Covid phone application TousAntiCovid and let it do the maths for you.

When you look in the “wallet” (carnet) part of the app, you will see your vaccination certificate. It will mention the date that the certificate will expire.

In addition, in the three weeks leading up to the expiration of the certificate, a warning will appear in your app in a yellow bar stating that your certificate will soon expire.

You can also scan in positive Covid test results to the app. That certificate will be active 11 days after it was issued and remain valid for a further six months as part of the health pass scheme.

Seven months becomes four from February 15

On February 15, the deadline for receiving a booster will shorten to four months after the second dose.

Adults can receive their booster dose three months after their last dose, giving one month of flexibility to get the extra dose.

The vaccine pass

It is still possible to use a negative Covid test as part of the health pass, which remains valid for 24 hours.

However, this will soon no longer be the case as the government is set to transform the health pass into a vaccine pass, with the change most likely to come into effect next week, following discussions in parliament. It has yet to be finally approved.
