How France’s Covid-19 vaccine roll-out compares in Europe
The French government has faced criticism for its slow start compared to its neighbours
France’s vaccination campaign against Covid-19 began on December 27 but since then only 5,000 people have been inoculated.
Neighbouring country Germany, which started its roll-out one day before France, has already vaccinated over 250,000 people.
President Emmanuel Macron himself criticised the 'family stroll' pace of the vaccine roll-out, saying it "does not meet the needs of the moment, nor the French needs", according to sources close to the Elysée.
Health Minister Olivier Véran, though, has defended the slow start, saying, “what is important is that we start out on the right foot and are capable of accelerating [the roll-out]”.
