Motoway tolls set to rise on February 1
Drivers in Rhône-Alpes will see the largest increases
It is about to become a little more expensive to use France's motorway network.
From Thursday, February 1, motorway tolls are set to rise between 1.03% and 2.04% depending on the network, according to figures revealed by the Journal du Dimanche and confirmed by the Ministry of Transport.
The new tariffs are set to be formally revealed this week at a meeting involving motorway companies, related professional bodies and members of government.
Motorways operated by Appr and Area, which are mainly in the Rhône-Alpes, will see the highest increases, due to the additional cost of improvements and maintenance in the area. The remainder of the increase covers inflation and tariffs paid to government coffers by the companies.
This year's increase is more than in 2017, when rises were kept below 1%. Two years previously, then ecology minister Ségolène Royal ordered a freeze on motorway tariffs.
