Grated Emmental cheese sold between March 3 and March 11 is being recalled to Leclerc stores across France over concerns that the packets contain “pieces of white, translucent plastic.”

The Emmental in question is in a 500g pack belonging to the Les Croisés brand and has a use-by date of May 2 at the earliest.

Affected products are labelled ‘Emmental français rapé’, have the barcode 3564700014677 and the batch numbers 030 22 055 23 1315 or 030 22 055 23 1430.

Government information service Rappel Conso urges customers not to consume the cheese even if they cannot see any pieces of plastic within it.

Anyone who purchased a pack can take it back to the shop for a refund.

The recall process will come to an end on May 11.
