Tous à l'Opéra: Free open days at France’s opera houses
Rehearsals, concerts, workshops… venues around the country offer events for people to learn more about this art form
Twenty-six French opera houses are opening for free events in May to give people a chance to learn more about the art form.
From May 5-7, 2023 Tous à l'Opéra is a chance to discover the world of opera in such prestigious venues as Paris’s Palais Garnier and Opéra Bastille and major regional opera houses such as those of Bordeaux, Lille, Nice and Toulon.
Also taking part is the Opéra Royal de Versailles, a purpose-built opera venue at the Palace of Versailles, built in the reign of Louis XV, which is still regularly used for performances.
Activities on offer include attending rehearsals, concerts, costume and make-up workshops, backstage visits and meetings with opera professionals. Click here to see the full programme at the different participating theatres.
As part of the event this year there is also an online costume exhibition, which you can see at this link.
