Photos: The 14 villages vying to be France’s favourite in 2025

The list of 14 villages in the running to be considered France's Favourite Village (le village préféré des Français) for 2025 has been revealed.

The annual competition, by France Télévisions, asks the public to vote for their favourite on the shortlist. Voting is open online until March 7.

The winner will be announced when the show of the same name, presented by Stéphane Bern, airs on France 3 early summer.

The village shortlist selects one village for each region of mainland France, and one to represent the French overseas territories.

The full shortlist for 2025

In alphabetical order of region, the full list of 14 shortlisted villages for 2025 is: 

Saint-Antoine-l'Abbaye (Isère, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes)

Best-known for its major Abbey church, which dates back to 1095.

Semur-en-Auxois (Côte-d'Or, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté)

A medieval village built on the River Armançon.

Malestroit (Morbihan, Brittany)

Located on the River Oust and the Nantes-Brest canal, it has many half-timbered old houses.

Ferrières-en-Gâtinais (Loiret, Centre-Val-de-Loire)

A historical village with an abbey that was previously the site of a Benedictine monastery.

Calcatoggio (Corse-du-Sud)

An island village with expansive views over the Gulf of Liscia.

Sierck-les-Bains (Moselle, Grand-Est)

A prized traditional village close to both the German and Luxembourg borders.

Longpont (Aisne, Hauts-de-France)

A pretty, historical village with its own abbey ruins.

Rochefort-en-Yvelines (Yvelines, Ile-de-France)

Part of the arrondissement of Rambouillet, this village has its own historical church and castles.

Grand'Rivière (Martinique)

The representative for the overseas territories in this year’s list, Grand'Rivière is known for its colourful, pastel-painted houses (and an imposing green, metal bridge).

Clécy (Calvados, Normandy)

A hotspot for outdoor activities including hiking, kayaking and mountain biking, Clécy and its surrounding area was given the title of ‘The Capital of Suisse Normande (Swiss Normandy)’ in 1932 by the then-tourism minister.

Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne (Corrèze, Nouvelle-Aquitaine)

A medieval-era village located on the banks of the Dordogne river.

Lupiac (Gers, Occitanie)

This historical village is also known to be the birthplace of Charles de Batz de Castelmore d'Artagnan, one of the captains of the Musketeers, whose life was fictionalised in Alexandre Dumas’ book The Three Musketeers.

Fontevraud-l'Abbaye (Maine-et-Loire, Pays-de-la-Loire)

Favoured for its location in the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Loire Valley, this village is also close to the Loire Anjou Touraine French regional natural park.

Saorge (Alpes-Maritimes, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur)

A village on the route between Menton in France and the Colle di Tenda in Italy. Used to be part of the former County of Nice.

How to vote for your favourite village 2025

Voting is open on the France Télévisions website until March 7. 

To vote, click on your favourite village and confirm, then enter your e-mail address to submit your choice.
