€750,000 ring lost from Paris Ritz room found in hotel vacuum cleaner
Police and hotel staff were involved in investigating the loss
A €750,000 diamond-encrusted ring which had been reported stolen at the Paris Ritz hotel has been found inside the bag of a hotel vacuum cleaner.
The ring’s owner, a Malaysian businesswoman, told the Paris police that she had left it on a table in her hotel room on Friday (December 8) while she went shopping.
On her return at 11:30 the ring had vanished, prompting her to report its theft.
By Saturday morning the police and hotel staff were investigating the loss.
“We will investigate all possibilities,” a police source told Le Parisien. “Anything is possible.
“But if we conclude it was the work of a high-level thief then we give the case to the organised crime brigade.”
The following day the hotel found the ring in the bag of a vacuum cleaner.
“Thanks to the meticulous search by security agents, the ring was found this morning,” the hotel told Le Parisien.
“We would like to thank everyone working at the Paris Ritz who helped in the search.”
The client was reportedly “pleased” that her €750,000 ring had been found.
“We would like to thank the police and the hotel’s team who investigated the matter in record time,” said the businesswoman's lawyers.
The Paris Ritz offered the Malaysian businesswoman three nights’ free stay for the inconvenience.
A room at the legendary hotel on place Vendôme usually costs upwards of €1,500 a night.
However, Le Parisien reported that she was not likely to take up the offer.
