Supermarket taboulé and vegetable dishes recalled across France

A number of pre-made vegetable and taboulé dishes sold in French supermarkets are being recalled due to a “chemical contamination.”

Official recall site RappelConso started listing products for recall on Thursday November 2, with more being added on Friday morning.

There are recalls in place for supermarket own-brand pre-made salads, including shredded carrots and macédoine de légumes, branded pre-made salads from bio (organic) distributors and for non-branded ‘caterer’ products including beetroot salads.

Official advice is not to consume the items but to return them to the store of purchase for a refund. If you cannot get a refund, throw them away.

Which products are being recalled?

The list of Casino-brand products, sold in Casino supermarkets across France, are:

• Carottes râpées 300g Casino, GTIN 3222477061255, lot number 330001, best before date 14/11/2023

• Céleri rémoulade 300g Casino, GTIN 3222477061279, lot number 330001, best before date 14/11/2023

• Macédoine de légumes 300g Casino, GTIN 3222477059702, lot number 330001, best before date 12/11/2023

• Carottes râpées 1kg Casino, GTIN 3222477059603, lot number 330001, best before date 14/11/2023

Refunds will be available until November 19.

Pre-made products were sold at catering and salad stalls within different large and medium sized supermarkets across France are also being recalled. These are:

• Taboulé à l’orientale (under the brand name qualité traiteur), GTIN 3181580276102 lot number 330001, best before date, 12/11/2023

• Betteraves rouges, GTIN 3181580276973, lot number 330001, best before date, 14/11/2023

• Mini pennes à la tomate, GTIN 3181580276799, lot number 330001, best before date 12/11/2023

• bouchées à la reine, sold between October 30 and 31, GTIN 3181580278021, lot number 330001, best before date 7/11/2023

• Salade niçoise au thon (Sold only on October 30), GTIN 3181580106607, lot number 330001, best before date 12/11/2023

Other supermarket products from Monoprix and SuperU were recalled on Friday, as were products from other brands sold in multiple supermarkets.

• Bouchées à la reine, brand U (sold in Super U stores, GTIN 2621872000004, lot number 330001, best before 14/11/2023

The recall and refund date for these products varies depending on the store it was bought in.

What are the risks?

The exact chemical causing the recall has not been named, but RappelConso has issued advice that eating the affected products may be particularly harmful for at-risk groups such as the elderly and pregnant women.
