Some 10 departments of eastern France have been placed under an orange weather warning for storms today (June 30) by national forecaster Météo France.

The departments are: Ain, Doubs, Isère, Jura, Loire, Haute-Loire, Haut-Rhin, Rhône, Saône-et-Loire and Territoire de Belfort.

“Violent” storms will develop from the beginning of this afternoon around Haute-Loire, and move up towards Alsace over time “affecting all of the departments on orange alert,” Météo France warns.

The storms are expected to bring hail, strong winds and especially heavy rain of up to 30-40mm each hour.

The weather will calm gradually “from the east in the evening”.
