Fresh fish in the post - French fishing fleet cuts out the middleman
The ice-packed fish are sent anywhere in France and the boat-to-plate service is growing

A fishing fleet has started sending fresh fish ordered online straight from the boat to anywhere in France.
Fish does not spoil
It is claimed that, using the express temperature-controlled ChronoFresh delivery service, parcels opened 48 or 72 hours after the catch has been landed are still packed with solid ice.
A spokeswoman for the Cherbourg company, called Godaille, told The Connexion: “We have never had any problems with deliveries arriving where the fish has been spoiled because the ice has melted.
Dispatched at port
“Deliveries like this have been used by professional fishmongers for years – we decided to see if it would work with domestic deliveries, and it has done so very well.”
The fish, which are gutted but not prepared in any other way, are packed using ice shaving equipment aboard and dispatched upon reaching port.
Helped by lockdowns
Prices are comparable to those in fishmongers, with delivery costing €9.90 anywhere in France (free for orders of over €120).
Launched in 2019, the service took off during the lockdowns and since then customer numbers have continued to grow.
