Letters: Reporting dangerous dogs is surprisingly effective in France

Connexion reader says the anonymous online form helped ease her concerns

France has implemented harsher penalties for pet abandonment and animal cruelty

To the Editor,

I just read the interview with the president of SPA and would like to add a little information.

You can anonymously report concerns of animal abuse, relating to anything from farm animals to birds online

I filled out the form a month ago, having noticed near the centre of the town where I live in France that there was a mentally disturbed young woman with a huge XL bully.

She kept it on a piece of rope instead of a leash, and without a collar.

At the same time, there were a couple of homeless people with large dogs and pitbulls that began to spend time in the middle of a pedestrian street.

As the XL bully was a disaster waiting to happen and pitbulls are illegal in France, I was relieved to see that the next afternoon they were all gone and I have not seen any of them since.

I know that the homeless people keep the dogs for personal protection and was sorry to report them, but the XL bully was almost the size of a Great Dane and too dangerous.

As always in France, some things work surprisingly well, while others never really work at all.

This was exceptionally effective.
