Letters: Stop complaining about French bureaucracy after voting for Brexit

Connexion reader says Britons have only themselves to blame

French administrative services are often no more complicated than other EU countries

To the Editor,

I am in agreement with the reader, Stuart Ross about people being the instruments of their own problems with French officialdom.

You soon learn that in order to get anything done, you need all your documents, eg. to change a driving licence, register for tax, register a UK car, and so on.

It would be exactly the same if you had never lived in the UK and moved there. You would have to jump through British hoops.

However, I am getting fed up with UK residents blaming France for the 90-day rule and the bureaucracy that goes with it.

Europe has always had these rules for people living outside the EU or Schengen Area – it is just that the UK has not been subject to them before Brexit.

I have friends with a main residence in the UK, a ski chalet in France and a holiday home in Denmark.

They have hit problems for the husband (wife is Danish) and he blames the EU, despite voting for Brexit.

They really need to be blaming themselves. It seems they want it both ways: not be a member of a club and pay your dues, but still be allowed entry to all its events.
