I read with interest your online article concerning the big issues for Americans in France ahead of the US elections.
For me, a fundamental issue is the strength of the dollar versus the euro.
As Donald Trump took office eight years ago, he briefly tried to talk down the dollar, stating a weak dollar would encourage US manufacturers to sell abroad.
But it would also have negative implications for Americans abroad who depend on pension payments calculated in dollars.
I paid $1.35 for a euro when I bought my first house in France 20 years ago. I paid less than $1.10 last week.
That is a significant difference. In my retirement, I would find a 20% decrease in income life-changing.
