Letters: TLS lost my passport after I applied for a six-month visa for France

Reader shares his 'dreadful experience' dealing with the visa application agency

To the Editor,

I had a dreadful experience with TLS earlier this year.

It was the third year running I applied with my wife for a six-month visa. We had to present the exact same documents as the two years before, and were yet again photographed and fingerprinted.

My wife’s passport came back 10 days later with a visa. Mine did not arrive.

After a week, I phoned every day for another week to query where mine was and was reassured it would arrive.

The next week the manager told me the passport was lost and I would have to cancel it and start the whole process again!

As I had booked a flight to France I had to apply and go to Liverpool to get an emergency passport and then to Manchester the next day to start the application all over again. Although they “fast-tracked” me, I wasted two whole days.

I asked for compensation, which they refused outright – although they admitted responsibility for losing my passport.

It took more than a month and several messages to reimburse me for the new passport.

They posted back to me the “lost” passport (with visa) the next week of course!

It felt like a total shambles with unnecessary anxiety and inconvenience. My complaint never got addressed.
