Letters: Upgrading to fibre in France was unnecessarily infuriating

Connexion reader had to pay a €50 fee to cancel previous contract, despite staying with the same operator

Reader says he was told to cancel his contract with Orange by a representative from the company

To the Editor,

I have been a customer of Orange for 10 years (Wi-fi and phone).

Last month someone from Orange turned up on my doorstep to say that the fibre optic connection was now available. He made out that I had no choice but to switch to it (though I do not actually have an issue with this as I am happy to upgrade).

I signed a new contract there and then and he told me to call a particular number to cancel the old contract before the new one came into force.

That seemed very strange as you would have thought they would automatically do this for you.

Anyway, I called the number and was told I would be charged €50 to cancel my old contract!

This is quite disgusting behaviour.

I wonder if anyone else had a similar experience?
