Supermarket ice creams recalled in France over 'toxic substance' fears
Urgent recall affects more than 60 products sold under Auchan, Carrefour, Netto, Picard and Extrême brands
More than 60 popular types of ice cream sold in France have been recalled because they may contain high levels of a toxic substance.
Ice creams sold under Auchan, Carrefour, Netto, Picard and Extrême brands are among those to the recall due to the possibility that they could contain ethylene oxide above permitted levels.
Ethylene oxide is used to treat food against bacteria and is classed as a carcinogen.
Popular ice creams affected by the recall include Carrefour Sensation's Vanilla Macadamia Sauce saveur caramel; Carrefour Bio's Organic vanilla ice cream from Madagascar; Netto's Cone Gourmand 6x100ml Chocolat Noisette.
The full list of affected products is available via the French government's RappelConso website.
If you have bought one of the ice creams listed, take it back to the store where you bought it for a full refund.
