Almost 1,000 people will lose their jobs in the latest round of upheaval to hit the brand

The stores that will close are the latest casualties of the brand’s financial difficulties

A total of 21 supermarkets under the brand Casino are set to close in France after failing to find a buyer, with almost 1,000 people expected to lose their jobs.

The 21 sites to close are part of the group of 25 shops in total that had not yet found a buyer, after the restructuring of the Saint-Etienne-based group, due to its serious financial difficulty.

Not part of negotiations

Staff at these 25 shops have known since last spring that they were not part of the negotiations and transfers that the other Casino stores had agreed with other French supermarket brands Auchan, Carrefour and Intermarché.

Letters confirming the job losses will be sent by mid-November at the latest, except if a last-minute buyer makes themselves known by the end of today (September 30).

Some 60 stores changed in October 2023. The rest are being changed gradually up to next month (October 2024).
