29C forecast for south-west France before autumn returns mid-week
Cooler temperatures and rain will follow on Wednesday (October 20)

Temperatures in south-west France are predicted to hit highs of 29C tomorrow (October 19) before dropping sharply to seasonal norms - and high winds and rain later in the week, Météo France reports.
From today, the west of the Gers department and Tarbes will see temperatures rise to 25C. In the north, highs will hit 24C in Haute-Garonne and Tarn-et-Garonne. Summer weather will continue tomorrow, reaching up to 29C in Tarbes.
In Toulouse highs will reach 24C, still a little way off the highest ever temperature recorded in the city for October 19, which was 26.3C in 2014.
Temperatures unusual for October
While not record breaking, this week’s hot weather is unusual at this time of year.
Weather channel Météo 60 Tweeted images from a webcam in La Mongie ski resort in the Pyrenées showing how much snow there was on October 17, 2020, compared with green pastures visible on the same date this year.
Intéressante comparaison entre l'année dernière à la même date où la #neige était très présente sur nos reliefs dès la moyenne altitude et cette année où celle-ci se montre absente en raison de conditions anticycloniques durables.

The high temperatures early this week are caused by air currents from the Atlantic linked to a low-pressure system.
This will reach the region on Wednesday, October 20, bringing more usual weather for October – clouds, rain and temperatures in the low twenties.
Winds are expected to be strong across Brittany through to the Hauts-de-France, but also in the Île-de-France region and the west of Grand-Est.
