We live full-time in France and recently bought a new car in the UK to export here.
It was first registered in June 2018, and ecotax was paid in the UK, but what really shook us was when we came to register the car in France, the cost of the carte grise was – with regional tax and malus (ecotax on CO2 emissions) – €7,268.
The detailed breakdown is on the ANTS website where a simulator allows you to calculate the cost of registration.
We were fortunate that we could afford an additional £6,600 on top of the purchase price – others may be less fortunate.
There seems little on the internet to alert Britons to this substantial cost of registering a UK car in France.
