Air France to cut some domestic routes and 400+ jobs
Airline Air France is to remove certain routes - particularly domestic lines - and cut more than 400 ground staff jobs in a bid to save money, it has confirmed.
The company plans to cut at least 15% of its current domestic routes from its books, especially Paris-Agen, Paris-Quimper, and Paris-La Rochelle.
Direct routes between Toulouse and Caen, and Montpellier and Nantes will also be affected, meaning passengers will be more likely to connect via Paris.
These lines make an estimated 189 million loss for the company, it said.
Air France is also set to cut 465 staff jobs on the ground, offering “voluntary redundancy” deals to around 100 people based in Corsica, 63 at Paris-Orly and Marseille, and 39 at Nice-Côte d’Azur.
The changes come after months of discord and strikes at Air France, and it is unclear what effect this new announcement may have on union tensions.
The announcement also comes in the same week as a global airport ranking marked French airports as some of the “worst in the world”, notably with regards to punctuality, and food and shopping provision.
