Algae blamed for Breton crab invasion

Green algae that has been blamed for fouling the Breton coastline in recent years has also been blamed for the giant influx of spider crabs washed ashore near Saint-Brieuc, Côtes-d’Armor.

Brest marine scientist Fréd­éric Jean says green algae that grew in the strong sun took oxygen out of the water at night and suffocated the crabs.
