Nearly 100 smaller supermarkets in the south-west of France belonging to Casino or its affiliates will change branding from February 1.

The changes will apply to 92 shops in the Occitanie region after franchise owner Puig et Fils ended its partnership with Casino.

The convenience store-sized shops, under the Petit Casino, Vival and / or Spar banners will now come under the Carrefour identity after Carrefour and Puig et Fils entered into a 10-year agreement for the shops.

“It made little sense to continue the collaboration between Casino and this group of Puig & Fils franchisees under the current conditions,” said a source close to Casino’s hierarchy, as reported in Capital

Around 500 employees are affected by the switch but job losses are not expected.

The handover represents some 1.6% of the total number of convenience stores under the Casino umbrella and the annual loss of €16 million of revenue in a further economic hit to the struggling supermarket chain.

It follows the transfer of hundreds of Casino supermarkets to rivals including Intermarché and Carrefour throughout 2024
