An investigation has been opened into the alleged rape of an Australian woman in Paris last weekend. She claims to have been sexually assaulted by several men.

The woman, born in 1998, walked into a restaurant on the Boulevard de Clichy (in the city’s 18th arrondissement) at around 05:00 on Saturday (July 20) and told workers she had been raped by a number of men nearby.

She could not speak French, and explained the situation in English, after which restaurant workers contacted emergency services, who transported her to the nearby Bichat hospital.

The Tribunal de Paris confirmed to The Connexion that an investigation into the claim had been opened by Paris police authorities.

It has not been officially confirmed whether the woman was a tourist or lives in France.

French media reports claim she is visiting the city and was drunk when she arrived at the restaurant but this has not been confirmed by the Tribunal.

It follows the alleged rape of an British tourist in Paris during the Fête de la musique in June.

The woman was found outside the Châtelet-les-Halles shopping centre in a distressed state.
