A Briton has died after a road accident in Brittany on Thursday (May 9), after being hit by a car on a departmental road.

The unnamed 49-year old – who was on holiday in France – was hit by a car near Gaël (Ille-et-Vilaine) just before midday.

He was riding alongside two friends, also on motorbikes.

Emergency services were called but were unable to save him, and the man was pronounced dead on the scene. The 52-year old driver of the car was taken to hospital in Rennes, but was said to only be lightly injured.

An enquiry has been opened by the local public prosecutor but the death is not being treated as suspicious.

Local media reported that the man lived close to London.

He and his friends – also said to be English – were on a motorcycling holiday travelling to Pornic (Loire-Atlantique).
