British skier dies in French Alps after violent collision with stationary skier

A British skier has died after colliding with another skier who was said to be stationary at the time of the accident at a station in the French Alps yesterday (January 14).

The 62-year old woman was skiing black level piste ‘Aiguille Rouge’ in the Arcs resort (Savoie) at around 10:30 when she lost control of her skis and crashed into the man.

Both were wearing protective helmets.

Emergency services including resort first aid workers already nearby attempted to resuscitate her but she was pronounced dead on the scene. 

The 35-year old man she collided with was left with a fractured leg and was taken to a nearby doctor’s surgery for treatment.

Details of whether the woman was a visitor or resident in France have not been released.

It follows the death of two Estonian skiers caught in an avalanche at the Val d’Isère resort in the same department last weekend.
