Calendar: when to expect traffic jams on French roads this summer

Drivers warned over busy motorways and ring roads on several dates as well as problems around the Olympics

Major roads and motorways around France will be busy on several key dates this summer, making travel difficult. See our calendar of when - and where - drivers would be wise to avoid them.

The summer traffic forecast was prepared by the government traffic monitoring website Bison Futé.

The service can anticipate that roads will be at their busiest on the weekends close to major bank holidays, such as the French national holiday (July 14) and Assumption (August 15).

However, the worst congestion will occur on July 27, coinciding with the first weekend of the Paris Olympic Games (which run from July 26 to August 1) and the last day of the holidays for many professionals who have their break in July.
