A British charity is calling for people in France and the UK who may have information over the death of a young woman in the UK 50 years ago to come forward.
Locate International is asking for help identifying the unknown victim, found dead on February 18, 1975 at the side of a road in Baldock around 60km north of London, who it believes was a French woman.
It is likely she was the victim of a hit-and-run accident – although her body was found barefoot, her feet were not dirty so it was unlikely she was walking without shoes for a long time.
The charity released a sketch of the woman, which can be seen below.

“Even after 50 years, we are convinced that someone can help us find the important clue that will enable us to trace the identity of the ‘Baldock woman’,” said Mark Greenhalgh, CEO of the charity.
“The window to do so is closing,” Mr Greenhalgh added, hoping the case is solved “before it's too late.”
Clues to identity
A previous callout over the case in 2010 led to a British couple saying they may have hosted her in the early 1970s.
David and Barbara Liversedge said the woman – who went by Odile or sometimes Anna – was from the north of Paris and often hitchhiked around the country to visit friends.
When the family knew her, she was planning to study at Cambridge university.

A 1972 article in a local Cambridge newspaper discussed a 20-year old student named ‘Odile Ledoux’ at the university, who may be the victim.
The official call for witnesses from the charity can be found here. It includes a second sketch of the woman.
Additional information the callout gives about the woman includes:
She could regularly be found in Stotfold Social Club sipping on a cider
She worked manufacturing souvenirs on an industrial estate in Henlow
In 1973, she said she was travelling to Cambridge to study at a language school
She also had friends in Newquay, Cornwall
Locators are currently focusing on a lead linking the woman to the 20th arrondissement of Paris, although this is not conclusive and all information is appreciated.
Any information you have can be submitted directly through the charity’s website linked above.
