Facemasks to protect against the spread of Covid-19 are no longer required in most outdoor public settings.
The decision was announced by Prime Minister Jean Castex yesterday (June 16), with the rule coming into effect from today.
Covid France: Outdoor mask rules ends today and curfew on June 20
Masks had been mandatory in all indoor and outdoor public spaces in many towns and cities in France from the end of summer 2020 until yesterday.
They remain obligatory in all indoor public spaces and in some outdoor settings, as our graphic below shows. They are not required in school playgrounds - France drops facemask requirement for children in school playgrounds
