Dramatic drop in temperatures forecast in France this week
Rain, storms and cooler temperatures are forecast in France this week, marking an end to the late-summer heat of recent weeks.
A low-pressure area forming over the North Atlantic sea will descend down throughout France this week, dramatically cooling temperatures as it goes, weather forecaster La Chaine Météo has reported.
Temperatures are set to fall around 15°C over the course of the week (September 21-25) reaching 13-22°C on Friday.
After record-breaking high temperatures for September were recorded in France earlier this month, Friday’s temperatures are expected to be 3-5°C below norms for the season.
Wind, rain and storms expected
Today and tomorrow (September 21 and 22) a high-pressure zone in Germany will keep weather warm and calm in the north of France. Meanwhile, the south will experience varying pressure with unstable, stormy weather. Average temperatures will remain around 25-28°C.
On Wednesday, temperatures will start to fall as the low-pressure system over the Atlantic reaches the north of France bringing cloudy skies and rain. In the south, warm winds from north Africa will collide with the low-pressure front coming from the north, producing storms towards the end of the day with a risk of flooding on Wednesday and Thursday night.
By Thursday temperatures will fall dramatically, with continuing rain and wind. In the north, wind speeds could reach up to 100kph along the coast, and 80kph inland. Along the Mediterranean coast, a stormy morning will give way to strong mistral and tramontane winds by the evening.
Friday will bring cool, changeable weather with temperatures reaching 13-22°C. Showers and gusty winds are forecast in the north. On the Mediterranean coast, strong mistral and tramontane winds will continue. In the Pyrenees and Rhône-Alpes, rain is expected to last all day.
