Dried sausages recalled across France over salmonella fears

Dried sausage products, known as saucisson, have been recalled from major supermarket chains throughout France over fears of salmonella contamination.

The appeal was issued through the official product recall site RappelConso on Wednesday, October 2.

The recall affects two brands: Le Pelou (Mazeyrat) and Belle France. Contaminated products were sold across most major supermarkets, including Carrefour, E.Leclerc, Auchan and Système U stores.

Official advice is not to eat any of the products.

Refunds or exchanges are available at the point of purchase although the deadline to do so differs depending on the concerned product and supermarket.

Contaminated products

Three saucisse and saucisson products have been recalled.

From the brand Le Pelou (Mazeyrat):

• La saucisse à la perche by the brand, Le Pelou (Mazeyrat), is sold in Super U and Carrefour Contact stores. Lot numbers: 24-36-01-236 and 24-36-01-246 are affected. Use-by date: November 29, 2024. 

• La saucisse pur porc de 240 grammes, Le Pelou (Mazeyrat), is sold in Système U, Carrefour, Auchan and Leclerc supermarkets. It is sold loose in the traditional aisle or in micro perforated plastic packaging. Lot numbers: 24-36-01-247 and 24-36-01-248 are affected. Use-by date: November 30, 2024.

These products should be returned to the point of purchase by November 30, 2024.

From the brand Belle France:

• Le saucisson au jambon by the brand, Belle France, is sold in Francap supermarkets. Lot number: 124243021 is affected. Use-by date: December 8, 2024.

Salmonella symptoms

Salmonella is a common bacterial disease that affects the intestinal tract.

Consuming salmonella contaminated products can cause food poisoning or gastrointestinal problems such as diarrhoea and vomiting, accompanied by fever and headaches.

Symptoms can occur six to 72 hours after eating contaminated products.

These symptoms may be more pronounced in young children, pregnant women, people with weakened immune systems and the elderly.

People who have consumed these products and are experiencing these symptoms are advised to consult their GP.

If you do not have any symptoms after seven days of consuming the product, you do not need to worry.
