Eurostar trains between London and Brussels have been interrupted today (August 27), after a French train collided with a tractor.

A TGV train running between Brussels and Lille struck a tractor that was stuck on the tracks just before 08:00, near the Belgian town of Tournoi.

The accident left two people on the train injured, as well as causing severe shock to the driver, who was treated by emergency services.

The tractor had been abandoned, and did not have anyone inside when the train collided with it.

Two trains running from the Belgian capital to London were cancelled, with one running in the other direction this afternoon also impacted.

Other delays may also affect journeys on the route.

You can check Eurostar timetables to see if your train has been impacted if you are planning to travel on the route today.

Impacted route due to rail works

The TGV was taking a diverted route due to planned works on the Belgian rail network.

Due to the works, trains are currently passing through a route which has multiple level crossings, one of which is where the tractor was stuck.

There are not any level crossings on the usual route of the high-speed trains, the Belgian Rail network manager Infrabel said.
