Farmers angry at waste of courgettes
Organic farmers are throwing out several tonnes of their yellow courgette crop, worth €5,000, because customers demand blemish-free vegetables.
Caroline and Cyril Roux from Tarn-et-Garonne say grocers have told the wholesaler they do not want them because of harmless green marks. They have now given some of the crop to charity. Long-standing organic supporters expect imperfections but as organic food has become mainstream new clients want it to be flawless, they say.
