Five-year-old girl found dead in rubbish bag in eastern France
The local prosecutor for Rambervillers has opened an investigation into suspected murder
A 16-year-old boy has been taken into police custody after the dead body of a five-year-old girl was found in a rubbish bag in eastern France.
The five-year-old girl, Rose, was discovered in an apartment in Rambervillers (Vosges, Grand Est) on Tuesday (April 25).
The local prosecutor has opened an investigation into suspected murder.
What do we know so far?
Rose’s mother told police the girl had gone to the square at the end of her home’s road to see if any of her friends were around to play with, but she quickly returned home because she did not find anyone, report BFMTV.
She then sat on the steps outside her house with her mother. The mother went indoors for a few minutes to change her other daughter’s nappy. When she returned, Rose was gone. Her mother called her name, but there was no answer.
Rose’s mother called the gendarmerie to report her daughter missing and searches started. Local police began questioning people, including the 16-year-old boy who said he had seen her.
One hour later, the boy called the gendarmerie to say he had found the girl’s body in a rubbish bag at the front of his house. The gendarmerie visited the address and instead discovered the girl’s body inside the building.
Emergency services were unable to revive her. The apartment belongs to the boy’s mother and is located 300 metres away from the girl’s home.
The suspect is currently being held in custody.
