232 EasyJet flights between France and Portugal have been cancelled between August 15 and August 17.

Passengers affected by these cancellations have been offered reimbursement or a different flight, EasyJet have stated, adding that flights to Portugal from other European bases will not be affected.

EasyJet cabin crew based in Portugal announced the three-day strike in a row over working conditions and salary.

The strike will run from early August 15 to the evening of August 17, affecting holidaymakers travelling on the Assumption public holiday, which is celebrated in both France and Portugal.

There may be knock-on effects on the other easyJet routes on these days. Flights to Portugal not run by easyJet may also be impacted.

The Portuguese government has decreed a minimum amount of service to guarantee some flights leaving Portugal to Madeira, London, Geneva and Luxembourg.

99% of union members voted to strike

The strike was called by Portugal’s national union representing airline workers (the SNPVAC). Almost all (99%) members attending a meeting on the strike voted in favour.

The union has also argued that minimum service rules that force striking unions and workers to provide a certain level of service should not apply.

These rules usually only apply to domestic flights between mainland Portugal and the Azores and Madeira islands, for reasons of national cohesion, and reliance on airline transport for island residents.

EasyJet operates a number of flights between France and Portugal, with destinations including Faro, Lisbon, Porto, and Madeira. These flights leave from Paris, Bordeaux, Toulouse, Nice, Lyon, and other French cities.
