French Olympic ice skaters win highest score on record
Two French ice skaters have achieved the highest score on record at a competition this week, making them a favourite ahead of the Winter Olympic Games 2018 in PyeongChang.
The two-time World Champion French duo, Gabriella Papadakis and Guillaume Cizeron, won the Cup of China as a result of their historic Ice Dance performance, which gained a total of 200.43 points - the highest ever achieved, reports French newspaper Le Monde.#

Now Papadakis and Cizeron are being hailed as one of the only serious pretenders to the Olympic Gold in South Korea, set to take place from February 9-25 2018.
They are the first ice skating duo to ever break the threshold of 200 points, with the previous record at 199.86, which had been won just last week, by the French duo’s rivals and training partners, Canadians Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir.
Virtue and Moir, who won Olympic medals in 2010 and 2014, were not present at the Cup of China, leaving the door wide open for the French team to surge ahead.
Papadakis and Cizerons’ training continues in the meantime, with the Grand Prix of Figure Skating, and the Trophée de France, taking place in Grenoble in two weeks’ time.
The contest’s final is set to take place in Nagoya, Japan, from December 7-10.
