French startup brings back the postcard

Ideal for holidays, Fizzer is one example of a French startup success

Postcards have fallen somewhat out of vogue since email replaced snail mail. But the French startup Fizzer is revamping postcards for the digital age.

The concept of Fizzer is simple: “To turn easily your best moments into postcards”. The app allows users to personalise their holiday snaps by choosing from a number of different templates and designs. Cards can feature up to four pictures.

Postcards have a 300 character limit and cost around €2.40 to send, which includes the card itself and the postage fee. The app is easy to use. Customers simply upload pictures, add a note and address, and the studio takes care of the printing and mailing.

Three friends launched the venture in 2014. The work is done in a studio in Dives-sur-Mer in Calvados. Demand has increased this summer, with between 15,000 and 50,000 postcards handled every day.
