GRAPH: See seats by party in new French parliament

The left-wing alliance of the Nouveau Front Populaire won a shock victory over the far-right Rassemblement National in France’s parliamentary elections, according to figures released by the Interior Ministry on July 8.

The result of the second round of voting leaves the Rassemblement National (RN) as France’s third biggest party with 143 MPs. 

The RN previously had 82 MPs but was widely expected to win the vote having swept to victory in every region of France in the European parliamentary elections on June 9.

The Nouveau Front Populaire is now the biggest single party with 180 MPs in France’s parliament, however it does not have an absolute majority.

President Macron's Ensemble ! alliance now has 163 MPs,  with 77 fewer MPs than before the election.
