How to get your hands on some vintage French ski cabins from the 1970s
They could make a nice addition to your French garden

Are you on the lookout for some original, vintage French furniture?
On Saturday (June 24), 102 ski cabins from the resort of La Plagne in the French Alps (Savoie) are being put up for auction.
The 1970s cabins carried visitors up the mountains from Roche de Moi to the Bellecôte glacier until the end of the last season.
The five-person ski cabins (called télécabines in French) are in the same bright red as the iconic bobble hat which is the logo of La Plagne ski resort.
The auction’s organisers said the ski cabins date from the “golden age of emblematic winter sports resorts”.
The ski cabins were inaugurated on December 16, 1978, and were in use until April 26, 2023. Each one weighs 240 kg and is 2.05 m long, 1.65 m wide and 1.85 m high.
The auction is open to everyone and the starting price is €500. It will take place both on-site at the cinema room at La Plagne Centre and online at interenchères/74002.com from 14:00. The ski cabins will be on display from 9:00 to 12:00 in the Plagne Bellecôte car park the same day.

Successful bidders must pay immediately (up to €1,000 in cash, by card or bank transfer) and must collect the ski lifts on July 1, 2023, from 9:00 to 14:00 or from 14:00 to 16:00.
The auction comes amid the resort’s plans to update its transport options, with new, bigger cabins set to be introduced this December.
La Plagne is the latest resort to sell its cabins in recent years. In 2018, Vaujany in Isère (Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes) sold 72 of its old cabins for €290 each, in less than three days. And in 2020, iconic cabins from 1973 were sold at auction in Samoëns, Haute-Savoie.
