Killer bacteria fear on Corsica olive groves

Infected for the first time

Published Modified

Olive trees and wild oléastres in the maquis in Corsica have been infected for the first time with the Xylella fastidiosa bacteria that has already wiped out 15% of Italian olive production.

It is spread by sap-sucking insects and controls could mean uprooting trees. Work is now being carried out to check if the bacteria is a killer strain.
