La Poste enables home-delivery from local French shops

Formerly set up town by town in partnerships with mairies, the mavillemonshopping.fr service is opening up to all commerçants and artisans of mainland France and its overseas regions and territories.

It says it wants to help businesses keep going by offering a service at a distance and to limit the need for members of the public to go out.

Firms can join the website and put their products online (though not frozen goods); members of the public can enter their postcode to find out which local shops have products available.

You then click on a firm that interests you to see a page of products that you can order online and pay for by bank card via a secure online system.

Usually the Ma Ville Mon Shopping service offers a choice of collecting your order from the shop without having to queue, or a home delivery by La Poste. Obviously in the current Covid-19 situation home delivery is a better option.

We tried it out near one of our journalists' homes in Nice today, however only two firms were available - a health food shop and hairdresser's salon (which had no products on its page). Availability is therefore likely to be variable around the country but may improve if more firms take up the current offer.

In certain cases deliveries are instead done by a logistics firm, Stuart, which claims to ‘deliver anything, anywhere, anytime’.

Shops are also able to do their own deliveries if appropriate.

Ma Ville Mon Shopping says home delivery is possible everywhere in France.

The business was created as a start-up in Bordeaux in 2015, but has been a La Poste subsidiary since 2019.
