Late post blamed on UK weather
Bad weather in the UK is to blame for some late arrivals of mail at homes in France, says Royal Mail.
Following reports from many Connexion readers of mail sent from the UK having recently taken three weeks or longer to arrive, a Royal Mail spokeswoman has confirmed that at least part of the problem may have occurred in the process of them getting the mail to France.
She said: “Unfortunately, in a few areas, in the run-up to Christmas there were some delays to mail being collected, processed and travelling to mainland Europe as a result of bad weather.
“This is Royal Mail’s busiest time of year and we apologise to those customers affected by this. We are aware how important deliveries are to our customers over the festive period and our postmen and women in our mail centres worked around the clock to deliver Christmas for all of our customers.
“Customers concerned about deliveries should contact our customer service for further information on via our website www.royalmail.com, via Twitter @RoyalMail or on 0044 (0)3457 740740.”
Connexion also asked La Poste if they were aware of anything out of the ordinary at the French end of deliveries, but we have not yet had a response.
