Letters: Postal delays meant Christmas cards took five weeks to reach France

Readers complain of gifts arriving well into the new year

Has your post been delayed?

To the Editor,

I've just read your online article on postal delays. It has affected us in Normandy as well.

A Christmas card was posted to us from friends in Magneville (Manche) on December 3. We received it in Montsenelle (Manche) on January 15 – a distance of 25km travelled. Crazy.

I dread to think how many cards we have sent in France and to the UK that have yet to arrive.

To the Editor,

Here in Aveyron, our Christmas cards also arrived late, in mid-January. One was from Australia and one from the UK, which had apparently taken five weeks to arrive.

The champion for lateness must be a statement that arrived the day after the Christmas cards, in January this year, and had been posted in the UK in July 2023!
