Many rivers around France are at dangerous levels due to the heavy rain, with some already flooding.
Numerous floods have formed in the north-west and north of France following the passage of Storms Eowyn and Herminia, with Brittany, Normandy and the Pays de la Loire particularly affected.
The floods are likely to get worse in these areas, reports French river monitoring service Vigicrues, with high alert warnings on several rivers.
In Normandy and the Pays de la Loire water levels are dangerously high on the Orne, Dives, Iton, Mayenne and Oudon rivers.
In Brittany, the Vilaine and its tributaries are already flooding, particularly in the Rennes area following rainfall on Sunday night.
“Unfortunately, the peak flood level has not yet been reached’, said Rennes mayor Nathalie Appéré on Sunday (January 26). “The water will recede slowly and that will probably not start until Wednesday.”
