Meghan’s boost for French jewellery
A French artisan jewellery brand has had to step up production after the Duchess of Sussex wore a pair of its earrings on a royal trip to Morocco
The handmade €150-a-pair 24-carat gold-plated earrings from Bijoux Gas in Marseille, sold out within hours after the Duchess wore them to meet young entrepreneurs in Rabat with husband, Prince Harry.
The brand, which opened its first store in Saint-Tropez in 1971, is also a favourite of Brigitte Macron.
The 80 artisans had to create more of the Onde Gourmette earrings as fast as possible to restock stores and its e-shop – but the royal approval meant they also sold out again within hours.
The firm’s press officer Charlotte Buttet said: “[Meghan] is a very influential personality so it had a big impact on our sales.
“We had no idea she had the earrings but we’re delighted!”
