Mirror image is cause of dyslexia
French scientists have identified an eye problem that may be one cause of dyslexia where millions of sufferers face severe reading and writing problems.
Guy Ropars and Albert Le Floch of the Université de Rennes 1 in Brittany found dyslexic people had light receptor cells that allowed them to see two ‘mirror versions’ of a letter at one time.
They found a spot in the eye, Maxwell’s spot, was non-symmetrical in one eye and round in the dominant eye. The brain reads signals from the round spot but dyslexics had a round spot in each eye, giving the brain two confusing images.
