A batch of Mont d’Or cheese sold in major French supermarket chains is being urgently recalled due to a risk of salmonella contamination.
The affected cheese was produced by the brand Badoz and sold from October 28-29 in stores across France, including Carrefour, Auchan, Leclerc and Intermarché.
The appeal was issued through the official product recall site RappelConso on Wednesday, October 30.
Customers are advised not to eat the cheese and can receive a refund from the point of purchase.
Mont d’Or (sometimes called vacherin du Haut-Doubs) is a staple cheese for autumn and winter in France, with roughly 5,400 tons produced every year. It is a soft unpasteurised cow’s cheese, sold in a cylindrical wooden box.
The cheese can be eaten cold but most people choose to heat it. Cooking food at over 65C for at least 10 minutes can destroy salmonella bacteria.
