The Danuté and Alain Mallart private art collection worth up to €9 million will go on auction in Paris next month.

The Franco-Belgian collection includes pieces from contemporary artists including Marlene Dumas and Anselm Kiefer.

Furniture from contemporary 20th century designers including Jean-Michel Frank, Diego Giacometti, Jean Dunand, Marc du Plantier, Zsolnay, Georges de Feure, and Eugène Printz is also part of the collection, with around 100 pieces in total being auctioned.

It will be headed by Christie’s and Art Basel Paris, and held at the Grand Palais in the city centre on October 17. It is the first time Christie’s will host an auction at the Grand Palais.

More information will soon be available via Christie’s website.

“Of course, we always sell with regret, but I'm now more of a patron of the arts than a collector and business owner,” said Alain Mallart, the current part-owner of the collection to French media outlet Les Echos.

Mr Mallart is also patron of the Theatre Royal de la Monnaie in Brussels, as well as of the Parkinson’s Association in Belgium, and has suffered from the disease for over 15 years.

“Market fluctuations do not matter [when selling art,]” he said.
